Northern Exposure

September 2007

Lianshulu has had superb game viewing over the last couple of weeks. This has been a culmination of very dry conditions surrounding the camp and game stocking in Mudumu National Park.

The dry weather has seen many elephants arriving in and around camp as the only water available has been in the river. The recent full day of rain has eased the situation. The Ministry of Environment and Tourism in Namibia has just released 8 giraffe, 45 eland and 25 sable into the Park. Recent game drives have included 2 wild dog sightings, leopard and cheetah. The first of the Carmine Bee Eaters have been seen as they start to nest.

Itineraries including Lianshulu can be found on our website.

Giraffe return to East Caprivi

After a 20 year absence, giraffe have been reintroduced to the Mudumu National Park. Following the successful reintroduction of 11 giraffe in a joint venture in mid 2006, Lianshulu’s directors and a party of loyal supporters personally funded the acquisition of a further 5 giraffe.

Following a 1000km journey and a nightly vigil these animals will help establish a viable giraffe population in the National Park. Since the reintroduction in August, the giraffe have split into three separate groups. One of the younger animals has settled down just outside Lianshulu Bush Lodge. The later introductions have all remained within the park and the Lodge has regular sightings of them.
