December 2007

The Mushara Outpost is open! December 2007 saw the doors open at The Mushara Outpost, a small tented camp accommodating just 16 guests on the bank of a dry riverbed within the Mushara property. The Outpost will appeal to those who enjoy stylish safari camps tucked away in the bush.

Each en-suite tent is built on a wooden deck (1.5 metres high) providing great views into the surrounding bush and raised walkways connect the tents to the main area. The tents have solid glass windows and doors with integral fly-screens to keep some of the smaller local residents outside. For the hottest days, Marc has fitted air-conditioning.

The Outpost's cool main area is built in the style of an old farm house with high walls, corrugated iron roof with a large wrap around veranda offering plenty of shade. Marc and Mariza Pampe want to create the feeling of a well lived in house - friendly, warm, extremely comfortable with a homely atmosphere.

2008 rack rates for the Outpost will start at N$ 1100.00 pp sharing, incl. DBB, afternoon cake, coffee and tea. This is exceptionally good value for money!

I feel compelled to tell you how wondrous Mushara Villa was. Happily, we were there for 4 nights, as it was far and away the highlight, in terms of accommodation, of our trip. Pure luxury, with thought given to decor, comfort and every little convenience. We had our own vehicle and driver. Superb food and wines, extra-friendly and courteous management and staff. All in all, a delightful experience. Mr & Mrs Gilbert

Solid gold game drive! Game viewing in Etosha has been superb over the last two months. The low rainfall has helped prevent game from dispersing into the park. Guests at Mushara recently experienced an amazing afternoon drive with their guide, Abraham. On entering the Park through the Von Lindquist gate, guests first saw female leopard with her cub on an Impala kill just past the first water hole at Klein Namutoni. From there on, 12 elephants were spotted at Chodop, 7 lions with cubs at Kalkheuwel, 1 Black Rhino between Ngobib and Kalkheuwel finishing with 4 White Rhino at Ngobib.

Not bad for an afternoon in the Park!

Rising costs puts Mushara ahead, again. With the recently announced rate increases for accommodation inside Etosha National Park, Mushara Lodge, Villas and the new Outpost (opening in December), the long standing reputation of value for money at Mushara is emphasised further. Family managed operations of this calibre are a rare thing and in Eastern Etosha, Mushara is unique.

With the Centenary of Etosha this year, Mushara offers great options for all budgets. Plus with the new carefully located family room, Marc and Mariza have helped make Etosha a family friendly destination.

Etosha Game Drive Highlights - Python 1 : Jackal 0 Mushara’s innovative game drive radio network, established earlier this month, is producing excellent results. Game sighting highlights are now co-ordinated and controlled preventing overcrowding.

Exceptional recent sightings include a rock python ingesting an unfortunate jackal in Etosha as well as numerous elephants and lions near Fischer’s Pan.
