Etosha highlights. It has been an outstanding month for predator sightings in Eastern Etosha. The same leopard has been sighted regularly over the last two weeks close to Klein Namutoni. Last week he was forced to relinquish a kudu kill to a couple of scavenging lions. The lion activity around Fischer’s Pan and Groot Okevi has been dominated by a pride of twenty. Mushara’s guests have also frequently seen a pride consisting of two adult females with five young cubs. Whilst the breeding herds of elephant are dropping in number now, black rhino sightings around Tsumcor are at a premium. The Friday game drive counted three separate rhino, seven elephant, twenty lion and several hundred antelope on the Andoni plains. The park is cooking!
Speaking of cooking, the kitchen at Mushara has been attempting to match the national park for memorable experiences. This month, chef Neaman is recommending his homemade potato ravioli with sage sauce, followed by springbok loin with creamy rosemary sauce. He points out that his freshly baked croissants with tomato jam, bacon and cheese are a match for a good drive any day.

Renovations at the lodge. Eastern Etosha’s Mushara Lodge is undergoing a series of upgrades which will be complete by June 19th. The lodge and cottage walls have been re-styled using Moroccan lamps which dramatically soften the appearance of the main building at night. The interior of the main lodge is going to be broken up with a series of screens hanging from the high ceiling. This will create a number of cosy areas for guests to read, chat or hold hands in. The redesign is being undertaken by the same virtuoso team that created the amazing interiors at the Mushara Villas. Forget romantic Saharan retreats, we have it covered!
