Mushara Bush Camp has had a fantastic first year of operations with nothing but praise for the excellent service, flexibility for families and unbeatable value for money. The family game drives on the Mushara property have been a welcome addition for guests with easily bored children. The thrills of the vast Etosha park are hard to beat but they do require a certain time commitment! A good alternative is to join a short guided drive at Mushara itself, an activity only available from the Bush Camp.

Expect the unexpected in Etosha
The beauty of the gamedrive is that you never quite know what you are going to see. For us last week, Etosha delivered a quiet afternoon - the highlight for our daughter was the warthog family on the lawns at Mushara. The following day was a whole different matter for four guests.
The afternoon drive saw a young leopard coming out of the bush towards the vehicle just before Chudop. At just one metre from the vehicle the leopard leisurely drank water from the puddles from the day before's rain, looking at the vehicle as if intoxicated. Just 1 hour later a huge leopard spent 10 minutes watching the vehicle between Namutoni and Twee Palms just 100 metres away. And only 30 minutes later a black rhino bull approached the vehicle. Just as Marc felt he was coming too close the rhino must have had the same thought and diverted into the bush. It must have been the Lynx effect...
The next morning the same guests went up north to find elephants – no elephants today but 5 lions appeared at Tsumcor – two male lions, two females and three cubs.

The Bush Camp at Mushara has been an instant hit thanks to a combination of unbeatable value for money without compromise on comfort and the Mushara Collection’s proven track record on quality. Self-drive guests are ideally placed on the edge of the Etosha National Park and families now have a really affordable base for longer stays in the area which means lots of short child-friendly drives into the park without having to commit to endurance activities.
Marc and Mariza have the Bush Camp exactly the way they want it and have now released images of the finished property. Forget architect designed safari lodges with creaky antique furniture and imported European chefs. This is a camp that was built by the parents of two small children who live at Mushara. In short, the priorities were to design a camp that was casual, comfortable, friendly and affordable for the average family.
You can find the new images on the Mushara Gallery page of our website.

When Mushara Bush Camp opens in August this year, not only will it pave the way for truly family friendly safaris in Etosha, it will also set the benchmark for outstanding value. The perfectly round nightly rate of N$1000.00 DBB is hard to better and the free child-minding service is impossible to beat. Families can choose to make this a stress-free base from which to introduce their children to the natural highs of game viewing, the rates mean that even extended stays leave a decent budget reserve to explore the rest of the country. Whilst many parents will want to take their children on every single Etosha drive, the child-minding service provides the option for a few hours of undisturbed photography or at the very least, a few glasses of wine by the fire sans Livingstone junior.
It is worth noting that Mushara Bush Camp is not just for families. The spacious guest areas and carefully placed tents are also great for couples looking for a relaxed and welcoming safari camp. The emphasis is on simple well-designed accommodation, tasty (not fussy) food and zero compromise on service. If your couples have a potential child allergy then the Mushara Outpost is exactly what they are looking for!

Etosha has received over 500 ml in the last 5 weeks which has seen the elephant herds move north in the park. Mushara's guides are reporting some excellent big cat sightings as the local felines resort to following the gamedrive roads to keep their paws dry. The male lion trio pictured below were seen early on Monday. Abraham the senior guide then went on to find a leopard with a kill at Klein Namutoni waterhole and two male cheetah on the drive home, not bad for four hours work. The river in front of the
Mushara Outpost is in full flood, already breaking last years record levels.
