Boulders Camp update.

Boulders will sleep 8 guests in four double rooms, ideally booked for two nights though a one night stay is possible in conjunction with a night at Wolwedans lodge. To make the most of the NamibRand experience, we suggest staying at both dune and boulder locations. Boulders is a two hour scenic transfer from main reception at Wolwedans, with a different route for the return journey. Activities include walks and drives into the deep south of the NamibRand reserve. Rates in 2007 will be the same as the lodge and the camp is due to open for bookings on July 1st 2007.

Desert First or Desert Last? The ideal time to introduce visitors to Namibia’s desert gem, the Namib, has long been a talking point. Is it a first or a final stop?

Personally, I would go with the latter for the simple reason that to understand and enjoy the tranquility of the Namib, work related stress needs to be long forgotten and the desire to see Namibia’s other famous and less subtle highlights needs to be satisfied.

First, track cheetah on foot at sunrise, try and keep a zebra headcount at an Etosha waterhole, watch elephants as they trail silently through the geological masterpiece of Damaraland and then you are ready. Quite simply, the oldest desert in the world deserves your full attention, anything less and you risk missing the point.

N.I.C.E. The Wolwedans Collection has a long standing and well deserved reputation for great cuisine and the open kitchen at Dune Camp is far more entertaining than any reality chef show I have ever seen on TV. Now Stephan Brückner has created a training facility in Windhoek for preparing the next generation of Namibian master chefs - the Namibian Institute of Culinary Education.

This is a fantastic resource not only for fast-tracking local talent but also a serious investment in the local workforce. It is the latest training and empowerment innovation that Stephan Brückner has initiated and it is entirely harmonious with the local management systems in place at the camps.

Although the chefs at Wolwedans do occasionally need time to rest, this does provide guests with the time to explore the immaculate 180,000 hectare private reserve.

The DuneHopper is a fly-in programme with packages ranging from 3 to 5 nights. Flights depart daily from Windhoek and Swakopmund making this a great way to access the stunning NamibRand Nature Reserve and Sossusvlei if your clients are pressed for time. Easily combined with northern itineraries, either self-drive or fly-in and ensuring seamless onward travel.

Namibian wine at Wolwedans Amongst the carefully stored wine selection at Wolwedans, Stephan Brückner stocks one very special wine which is produced and bottled 100km as the crow flies from Wolwedans. Neuras Red is a desert wine and production is limited to just 2800 bottles a year of which Wolwedans buys 300 for resale, the rest go to private collectors. Neuras Red is good enough to have won prizes in South Africa, where it was judged alongside some of the finest wine in the world. Stephan has built a wine cellar as unique as the wine it holds, dug five metres into a sand dune.

A percentage of the profit goes to a children’s boarding house in Maltahöhe which Wolwedans helps support. Your clients can assist in the upliftment of underprivileged Namibian children just by enjoying good wine.
